Drew Yackel

Associate Chaplain for Christian and Interfaith Life, Chaplain's Office

Rev. Andrew (Drew) Yackel serves as the Associate Chaplain for Christian and Interfaith Life at Carleton College. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary (’14) and his Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College (’10) where he majored in Religion and minored in Sociology & Anthropology.

Ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Drew has served as a pastor for ten years in area congregations and communities including Urland Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls, MN and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Faribault, MN. He served his yearlong pastoral internship in Tucson, AZ.

Drew cares deeply about peacemaking and finds his passion at the intersection of faith and social justice. His ongoing work with ISAIAH and Faith in Minnesota brings together interfaith dialogue, community organizing, and non-violent political activism in order to build the ‘beloved community’ envisioned by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Jesus’ call to love God and love your neighbor is central to Drew’s understanding of life and ministry and has led him to partner with various community organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Community Action Center, Ruth’s House, Rotary, and HOPE Coalition.

Curiosity and a hunger for lifelong learning motivate Drew to engage the rich learning community at Carleton and animate his work to co-chair his synod’s theological conference planning committee and his engagement with the Continuous Growth Pathways program. Mentorship and teaching are core to Drew’s pastoral identity, and he relishes the role chaplains play at Carleton to help students, staff, and faculty make meaning.

Originally from Windom, MN, Drew now calls Northfield home alongside his wife, Angel, and two children, Maggie (8) and Simon (5), and their dog – a Shih Tzu named Barney.
