Highlights & Recent Activity

Angel is an immunologist interested in understanding the regulation of inflammation. His lab uses mammalian cell lines to study how the physical and chemical environment affects progression of inflammation and clearance of infection. Another aspect of this research focuses on understanding how bacteria evolve in response to pressures in the immunological environment, and characterizes novel gene function in bacteria that have a close relationship with mammalian cells. Both of these research projects primarily utilize techniques that measure changes in gene expression: quantitative PCR (qPCR), ELISAs, western blots, and CRISPR-based genetic engineering.
