Education & Professional History
B.A. in French Language and German Studies, University of South Florida; M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics, Purdue University
Amy Hutchinson (she/her) joined Carleton as the Director of the Language Center in 2023. Prior to her time at Carleton, Amy served on the linguistics faculty at Boston University where she taught courses primarily in phonetics and phonology. Her research interests lie broadly in the development of speech in a second language, but she is eager to chat about all things related to language acquisition and pedagogy. In her role as Director of the Language Center, Amy works with faculty, staff, and students to foster and enrich Carleton’s language learning and teaching community.
In her free time, Amy enjoys tending to her collection of rare houseplants, reading fantasy novels, knitting, and watching Purdue basketball!
At Carleton since 2023.
