Talk by Sean Purcell

Wed, April 26, 2023 • 4:30pm - 6:00pm (1h 30m) • Weitz 230

Sean Purcell is an arts-based researcher who mixes cinematic methods with critical problems exposed by the digital humanities (DH) to address systemic issues in the history of medicine. He uses cinematic and data-driven technologies to challenge medicine’s historical exploitation of human subjects. His media art installations forward his research goals while also challenging public audiences to reflect on the ethics of preservation, the production of medical knowledge, and the treatment of research subjects. He hopes to model this flexible approach to humanist research for the students he teaches, stressing how DH tools can be applied to critical problems in the wider culture
