Lewis Carroll

Perhaps the best way to experience Allice's adventures is through the eyes of her creator. For when Carroll created the book Alice's Adventures Under Ground, which he presented to Alice Liddell as a Christmas present in 1864, he included thirty-seven illustrations which he drew himself to be enjoyed with the 90 pages of text. Here are just a few of his illustrations from Chapter three of Alice's Adventures Under Ground, which corresponds to Chapter 5 in the printed version. Chapters 6 and 7 were written later and thus not included in the first version. Click on a character on the menu on the right to see the next image.
