Off-Campus Student Incident on New Year’s Eve

6 January 2021

The behavior reflected in a video circulating online of a Carleton student on New Year’s Eve is irresponsible and unacceptable, and it does not align with our community values at Carleton. College leadership responded over the weekend to take action. While we don’t typically comment publicly on the details of specific student disciplinary matters, we are taking this situation seriously within our disciplinary procedures.

Black lives matter. Black students matter. Any suggestion otherwise runs counter to the values of inclusivity that are broadly embraced at Carleton. We are committed to continuing the work of educating students and encouraging learning through accountability, even—and perhaps especially—in the midst of profound discomfort and discord.
