The First Gen Steering Committee is looking for a new First Gen Logo design.

Eligibility

  • The logo competition is open to all Carleton College students.
  • All contestants are bound by the rules of the contest. Violating any rules will lead to disqualification.

How to Enter

  • The contest begins on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 and ends on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 12:00 PM CST.
  • All entries must be submitted electronically to sfleming@carleton.edu, and must include the following, name of the person who designed the logo, email address, phone number, and a couple of sentences about the design idea.
  • Please email high resolution images/files either as a PNG or JPEG and pdf.
  • One submission per person allowed and no group entries will be allowed.

Submission Guidelines

  • Logo Variations: Primary Logo: Use the full “First-Generation” or “First-Gen” logo with both the name and symbol. Secondary Logo: A simplified version with just the symbol for compact or smaller use.
  • Logo Clear Space: Maintain clear space around the logo to ensure visibility and legibility. The clear space should be at least equal to the height of the “F” in the logo.
  • Logo Color Variations: Full Color: Use the official College colors for the logo, which are blue and maize along with 3 additional colors is acceptable (see Carleton’s colors)
  • Monochrome: For single-color printing or use on backgrounds where full color is not suitable, use black or white versions.
  • Logo Sizing: Ensure the logo is legible and retains its visual impact when scaled up or down. Avoid extreme resizing that might distort the proportions.
  • Logo Easy to Use: Logo must be easy to use, handle, resize, and manipulate for all reproduction purposes.
  • Clear Backgrounds: Provide logo versions with transparent backgrounds for versatile usage.
  • The winning designer may be asked to edit the submitted logo, if needed.

Intellectual property

  • All participants must affirm that the design is their original work and not copied.
  • AI created designs submissions are not allowed.
  • The winning design will become the sole property of the First Gen Steering Committee and can be used for any purpose including but not limited to, stickers, posters, website, etc.

Winning Design

  • The winning design will be judged on their visual appeal, quality of design, ease of use, and adhering to the concept.
  • The winning design will be determined by the First Gen Steering Committee and announced on November 8, 2023 at the First-Gen Student/Faculty/Staff Dinner.
  • The winning entry will receive an item of their choice from the Bookstore (max value $75).
