Students are expected to have all work completed for a course no later than the end of the official examination schedule for that term. Late work is not to be graded. Work may extend beyond the end of the final exam schedule only if an Extension (EXT) has been approved by an Associate Dean of Students or the Associate Provost. Extensions will be granted only in the most extraordinary circumstances.

All requests for extensions must be submitted by the end of the exam period.

There are two types of extensions that may be requested.

  1. An EXT may be granted for personal reasons such as illness or unusual circumstances beyond the student’s control.
  2. EXTs for academic reasons will be granted only in the most extraordinary circumstances such as the failure of laboratory equipment, lack of library materials, or difficulties that are the responsibilities of the instructor. In such cases, the instructor should submit a written request for approval to David Liben-Nowell, Associate Provost (Laird) explaining the situation.

Important Notes:

Once you have been granted an extension, you cannot drop the course. If you are unable to complete the work by the due date, you will be graded for work completed.

Please complete a separate form for each course you are requesting an extension.
