Winter Break Return to Campus Update (Testing and Arrival Times, Other Arrival Topics)

19 December 2020

Dear Carls,

Thank you for your engagement this week as we continue to plan for your return to campus in January. I write today to share additional details that address some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received from students, parents and families over the past week.

Testing and Arrival Times

Testing and move-in will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, and Sunday, January 10. If you haven’t already, please sign up for a testing slot. The time you select will also serve as your move-in time. You should plan on the following:

  • If you are driving to campus, please go directly to the Recreation Center at your scheduled testing time.
  • If you are traveling to campus via Northfield Lines, the bus will drop you off at the Recreation Center upon arrival to campus.
  • There will be a place to leave your luggage while you complete your COVID-19 test.
  • Residential Life will be stationed at the Recreation Center and will provide access to your residential space upon completion of your test.
  • campus shuttle will be available at the Recreation Center to transport you and your belongings after you complete your test. Shuttles will run a loop approximately every 20 minutes. Drop-off locations include the Davis parking lot (for access to Musser, Townhouses, Complex, etc.) and 1st and Maple streets (for access to Cassat, James, Watson, Evans, Nourse, Myers, etc.).

If your arrival time is not between noon and 8 p.m. on January 9 or 10, please see if adjustments to your travel plans can be made.  If your plans cannot be adjusted, email reslife@carleton.edu as soon as possible to review for approval.

Other Arrival Topics

As you prepare to return to campus, please keep the following in mind:

  • You must have your OneCard with you when you arrive on campus. If you have lost your OneCard or have yet to receive one as a first-year student, please contact Campus Services prior to your arrival.
  • If you have received a positive COVID-19 test since the end of Fall Term, please share that information with us using this form. Once your test timing and result have been verified, you will be removed from the surveillance testing pool for 90 days.
  • Meal plans will be active, and you will be able to get grab-and-go food upon arrival to campus.
  • Storage access will be available during the weekend for those of you who have items stored on campus. More information will be forthcoming the first week of class.
  • The campus post office will open Saturday and Sunday.
  • If you need assistance obtaining winter clothing, the Carleton Winter Wardrobe will be available January 11-18 in Sayles-Hill 252.
  • If you are a first-year student arriving to campus for the first time, you will be assigned a New Student Week Leader and will receive separate communication to assist in the transition to Carleton.

College offices and departments are closed next week to allow faculty and staff time to disconnect. Essential services continue to be available to our on-campus students, but most other offices and departments will not be responding to emails or answering phone calls until Monday, December 28. I hope you will continue to use the Student FAQs page of the COVID-19 website as a resource to find answers to frequently asked questions, particularly during this week-long pause.

Wishing you a healthy and joy-filled holiday season,

Dean Livingston
