Welcome!

The Weitz Center for Creativity is accessible to all visitors. The facility includes many accessible restrooms, as well as all-gender restrooms. Accessible parking spaces are available on the Union Street side of the building, and a wheelchair ramp is available at the main entrance at Third and College.

If you need to request an accommodation that we haven’t thought of, please do not hesitate to contact us at dayofdh.group@carleton.edu, with as much advance notice as possible. 

Live Transcription

There will be live transcription services for the Lightning Rounds and the Keynote talk. The Digital Demonstrations and afternoon Breakout Sessions will not have transcription due to technical limitations.

Zoom attendees can access this through the “Live Transcript” button within Zoom.

The in-person audience can visit the dedicated TypeWell page on a smart device, which will have the same transcript streamed live.

Rooms within the Weitz Center for Creativity

The Weitz Center is laid out as a hollow rectangle circling a central courtyard. There are three main levels to the building.

  • The ground (labeled “second”) floor:
    • Weitz Commons, the large room you walk into. The registration tables will be set up here, along with some tables and chairs to sit on. Breakfast will also be set up in the Commons.
    • Contains an upper level accessible via elevator or a short flight of stairs; the Cinema, Room 136, and Room 146 are all located on this level. In the elevator, the ground floor is referred to as the second floor, though the classrooms are still labeled 1xx.
  • The second (labeled “third”) floor:
    • Accessible via the elevator (button 3) and a longer flight of stairs, and classrooms are labeled as 2xx (Rooms 236 and 235 are located on this level).
  • The basement (labeled “0-level”) floor: 
    • Accessible via the elevators and stairs; this is where you’ll find Room 026 (the IdeaLab), a set of single-gender bathrooms, and a water fountain/water bottle filler. 

Weitz Commons (Breakfast and Registration)

Directions:

  • Upon entering the Weitz through the main entrance (wheelchair accessible), you will come into this large open space. This is the Commons, where all other room directions will be based from.
  • Breakfast and registration will be located here.
  • There is an elevator at the far side of the room, and bathrooms and a water fountain/water bottle filler are located one level down and to the right. 

Weitz Cinema (lightning talks)

Directions: 

  • Take a right from Commons, at the end of the hallway there will be a short flight of stairs.
  • To the left of the stairs is an elevator, take it up to floor 2.
  • On the landing to the right is the cinema.

Room information:

  • Capacity: up to 200 [NOTE: There won’t be any audience seating on the main level]
  • Soft stage lighting.
  • There will be a podium with microphone off to the side at the front for speakers. Presenters will be presenting to the movie screen.
  • Seats in the first row are wheelchair accessible

Weitz 236 (lunch and keynote)

Directions:

  • From Weitz Commons, take the elevator or stairs located to the right of the Cafe to level 3 (if taking stairs, this will require taking an additional flight to the left of the first landing).
  • Exit into the hallway, turning right if taking elevator.
  • Go down this hallway; Room 236 will be the large meeting room straight ahead.

Weitz 136

Directions:

  • From the Commons, there is a flight of stairs and an elevator to the right of the Cafe. If using elevator, get off at 2nd floor. If taking stairs, exit at the first landing.
  • Walk toward the international mural and turn right. This will lead you down a short ramp, leading into a long hallway. Room 136 is located at the end of this hallway, through double doors (often open) leading to a flight of stairs.
  • Once passing through these doors, 136 will be directly to the right in a small alcove.

Weitz 138

Directions:

  • From Commons, there is a flight of stairs and an elevator to the right of the Cafe. If using elevator, get off at 2nd floor. If taking stairs, exit at the first landing.
  • Walk toward the international mural and turn right. This will lead you down a short ramp, leading into a long hallway. Room 138 is located half way down this hallway, on the right.

Directions:

  • From Weitz Commons, take the elevator or stairs located to the left of the Cafe to level 3 (if taking stairs, this will require scaling an additional flight to the left of the first landing).
  • Exit into the hallway, turning right if taking elevator.
  • At the end of the hallway, turn right again, Room 235 will be directly to the right.

Weitz 132

Directions:

  • From Commons, take the elevator or stairs located to the left of the Cafe to level 2 (first landing). 
  • Walk ahead towards international mural and turn right. This will lead you down a short ramp. 
  • Continue to walk down the hallway, room 132 will be on the left.

Weitz 026 (“IdeaLab”)

Directions:

  • From Weitz Commons, take elevator or stairs located to the left of the Cafe down one level. This will lead to a small room with blue couches and a printer.
  • Take a right once reaching the back of this room. There will be a set of doors leading to a long brick hallway.
  • Room 026 will be OUTSIDE of these doors to the left.

Weitz 146 (Quiet Room; LTC Library)

Directions:

  • From Commons, take the elevator or stairs located to the left of the Cafe to level 2 (first landing). 
  • Walk ahead towards international mural and turn right. This will lead you down a short ramp. 
  • Immediately after reaching the bottom of this ramp, turn right. This will lead to a short hallway with Room 146 (Learning and Teaching Center) at the end.

Room information:

  • Learning and Teaching Center Library 
  • Multiple couches and large soft chairs
  • Single-gender bathrooms are located in the same hallway

This room is intended for people who need to get away from the hustle & bustle for a bit. Please do not use it to place phone calls.

Directions to Campus & Maps

The Day of Digital Humanities will be located in the Weitz Center for Creativity, 320 3rd St E, Northfield, MN 55057. This building is located a block away from Carleton’s main campus, on 3rd Street and College. The main entrance (wheelchair accessible) of the building is off of 3rd Street. There are multiple side entrances that are only accessible via stairs. The Weitz building is located a block away from Carleton’s main campus, on 3rd Street and College.
