Dear Members of the Carleton Community,
This week marks the transition from the academic year to summer break, and the number of people who will be regularly living and working on campus over the next two months dramatically declines. Given this change and consistently decreasing strains on campus operations, we are returning to a campus alert level of low.
Beginning at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 7, masks will be optional in most indoor spaces on campus for those who are fully vaccinated and boosted (if eligible), including visitors. This masking change coincides with the completion of final exams and the student move-out process. Individuals may continue to require that masks be worn in spaces they ordinarily control, such as offices, classrooms and labs, office suites, and residential rooms. Masks continue to be required for those who are not fully vaccinated and boosted.
On-campus testing will be limited over the summer, with the Carleton Rapid Test Site open only to students who are living or working on campus, including those enrolled in the Summer Liberal Arts Initiative and the Carleton Liberal Arts Experience. Testing will be available five days a week for one hour each day. Faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of other testing resources during the summer.
The COVID-19 Dashboard will continue to be updated through Friday, June 10, when the Carleton Rapid Test Site closes its regular Spring Term operations. Carleton will not report case numbers or designate alert levels over the summer.
As we close out yet another academic year that was upended in many ways by the pandemic, we thank you for the good will and flexibility you afforded the College. Looking ahead, we have turned our attention to developing sustainable operations and policies that will prepare Carleton to continue to respond to the pandemic in the fall. We look forward to sharing expectations for the coming academic year with you later this summer.
