Dear Carls,
Happy summer. In the framework for fall 2021, we announced Carleton’s intention to require both the seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccines for all students, faculty, staff and regular contractors. I am writing today to confirm this direction and to share some information that will guide the implementation of this requirement over the summer.
All students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and seasonal influenza in order to attend Carleton College.
- August 1, 2021, is the deadline for students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination must be submitted to the College no later than July 31, 2021. A person is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after completing the full course of a vaccine series. Students who will be unable to obtain a World Health Organization-approved vaccine in their home country or state by this date should notify the Dean of Students Office as quickly as possible to arrange to be vaccinated upon arrival to campus.
- The deadline for the seasonal flu vaccine will be announced once we are able to confirm its availability. We expect it to be in the month of October, and we expect to hold an on-campus vaccination clinic to assist students in obtaining the vaccine.
COVID-19 and seasonal influenza are not the only illnesses students are required to be protected against in order to attend Carleton. A complete list of immunization requirements for students is available on the Student Health and Counseling website. Students requesting an exemption from the COVID-19 or influenza vaccine requirement due to a medical reason, or because of a sincerely held religious belief, must submit a request for an exemption through the Dean of Students Office.
Be well and continue to stay safe,
Dean Livingston
