Dear Members of the Carleton Community,
As many of you have observed, tests for COVID-19 are currently difficult to access locally. Although this is a national problem that is beyond Carleton’s ability to fully address, we have established a new walk-in rapid testing facility to provide an immediate option to members of our campus community for the remainder of Fall term.
The Carleton Rapid Test Site, open daily and located in Burton 003, is open to students, faculty and staff who have been identified as close contacts or who are experiencing mild symptoms. The site is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekends. Appointments are not required. Masks must be worn inside the test site.
The Carleton Rapid Test Site uses BinaxNow antigen tests to detect whether an individual is infectious at the time of the test. The tests are self-administered under staff supervision, with results available in about 15 minutes. If you test positive at the Carleton Rapid Test Site, you will be instructed to self-isolate in your residence and await further instruction from the Case Investigation and Contact Tracing team.
While we focus on meeting the testing needs of our on-campus community, this rapid testing resource is not available to visitors, children, parents, spouses or partners of current Carleton students, faculty or staff. It also should not be used by anyone who needs medical care or who is experiencing more severe symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, difficulty breathing, or new loss of taste or smell. Students in need of medical care should contact SHAC, and faculty and staff should contact their health care provider. Difficulty breathing requires immediate attention, either by calling 911 or Security Services at (507) 222-4444.
