I [Anna Rafferty] am recruiting students to work with me on research in Spring 2025! Students would be working either on a research project related to CS education or on a project related to applying machine learning to projects in education:
- CS education: Some of my work here focuses on students’ understanding of code structure as well as students’ motivations for taking CS. Next term, I’m planning to pilot a new study, as well as explore what intro CS students think computer science is, both before and after taking intro.
- Machine learning applied to problems in education: This includes developing machine learning approaches for assessing student understanding as well as building and assessing tools that adaptively assist students (e.g., we just submitted a paper about a chatbot that can generate graphs while helping students with algebra problems).
You’d participate in a 2-credit independent study in Spring 2025 and be expected to work on the project for 5-6 hours per week to earn those two credits.
