Recruiting Research Students for Spring 2025

17 March 2025

I [Anna Rafferty] am recruiting students to work with me on research in Spring 2025! Students would be working either on a research project related to CS education or on a project related to applying machine learning to projects in education:

  • CS education: Some of my work here focuses on students’ understanding of code structure as well as students’ motivations for taking CS. Next term, I’m planning to pilot a new study, as well as explore what intro CS students think computer science is, both before and after taking intro.
  • Machine learning applied to problems in education: This includes developing machine learning approaches for assessing student understanding as well as building and assessing tools that adaptively assist students (e.g., we just submitted a paper about a chatbot that can generate graphs while helping students with algebra problems).

You’d participate in a 2-credit independent study in Spring 2025 and be expected to work on the project for 5-6 hours per week to earn those two credits.

If you want to learn more, please check out this form, and submit it by 8am on Monday, March 24 in order to apply.
