Tanya was born and raised in Minnesota, but took a long, winding road away, including living in Massachusetts (undergrad at MIT), Washington state (three years as a Software Development Engineer at Microsoft), North Carolina (PhD from UNC Chapel Hill), Ohio (teaching at Denison University). She’s looking forward to learning about snow activities that aren’t just building forts and shoveling, as well as exploring southern Minnesota. If you have suggestions, please reach out!
Tanya is looking forward to teaching many courses throughout the major, and is currently focusing on systems courses like Intro to Systems and Operating Systems, as well as Intro CS.
Her research is in the area of Real-Time Systems, where “real-time” means “predictable” (as opposed to so-fast-it-seems-instantaneous); her past projects have been at the intersection of operating systems, algorithms, data structures, parallel programming, and computer architecture. If you have any interest in any of this (or in modifying a 1/10th-scale self-driving car), stop by to chat.
When she’s not on campus, Tanya can be found building LEGO/DUPLO sets with her two kids (ages five and two), going to the lake, failing to grow a garden, playing video/board games, or starting yet another yarn-craft project.
