A noted Carnegie R1 institution, Boston College has launched a PhD program in Computer Science. The Computer Science department’s faculty includes leading experts in their fields, with an emphasis on the theory of computation and algorithmic fairness, machine learning, and data science and visualization, including applications to health, the sciences, human language, and society. The PhD program will provide a vehicle to train the next generation of computer scientists at the research frontier in these fields, with contributions to human knowledge and social good both prime considerations. Columbia University:

The Master of Arts in Statistics program at Columbia University is now accepting applications for Fall 2026. They invite you to join the virtual MA in Statistics Information Sessions (12 sessions on various dates starting 11/7) to learn about their program, such as student resources and academic support –– from the Math Refresher, Python and R Bootcamps in the Summer, to professional development and Peer Study Support during the academic year. Each session is led by the Program Director and student support team, so you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you may have. This event will be valuable for students who want to learn more about the program, curriculum, admission requirements, student support, and community, as well as funding opportunities.   • This fall, the Computer Science and Engineering Division at the University of Michigan will host a virtual Explore Graduate Studies in CSE workshop to help answer questions for any students interested in graduate studies in an area of computing. The workshop will take place over Zoom on Saturday, November 1, beginning at 10:30am Eastern Time. Have you considered applying to graduate school in CSE, but don’t know where to start? Here’s your opportunity to connect with a group of current graduate students and faculty for some help in figuring it all out – and to explore whether graduate study in computing is for you. Learn more about EGS and sign up (deadline 10/30). If you have additional questions, please email explorecse@umich.edu. They are also hosting a One-on-one Writing Clinic and students who are interested in having their Statement of Purpose reviewed prior to submitting it to a PhD program for the upcoming admissions cycle are invited to apply for the EGS 1-on-1 Writing Clinic. A separate application is required for this session, with a limited number of slots. Interested applicants must apply for the Writing Clinic by Sunday, October 19.

  • The University of Minnesota Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) program is hosting a virtual open house for prospective students interested in learning more about research and career opportunities at the intersection of biology, computer, and data sciences here in Minnesota and beyond. Undergraduates and post-bac students from surrounding areas and other graduate programs are invited to attend to learn about BICB and network with current graduate students from a wide range of research disciplines. The open house with will be held online on from 9:30am-12:30pm. The event will consist of an information session about our graduate program, student research talks, a Q&A panel with current students, and application tips. Register.
  • University of Iowa hosts a “Prospective Graduate Student Visit Day“. Any student who wants to visit can RSVP by November 3. Assistance with travel expenses is available, with requests made via the form.
