CS Tea, May 25: Joslenne Peña presents “Expanding the computing pipeline through community outreach and lived experience”

24 May 2023

Professor Joslenne Peña (Macalester) will speak about her research in human-computer interaction and computer science education. Join us for coffee, tea, and conversation on Thursday, May 25, 3:30-4:30pm, Anderson 329. The advent of computing education research has created questions around inclusion, access, and pedagogy. In particular, expanding the computing pipeline has been a central focus for many in the community. In this talk, I will discuss my work that combines human-computer interaction approaches and education methodologies to provide informal learning opportunities for diverse groups of workforce professionals and older adults. I emphasize the importance of cultivating particular experiences for this niche group. And finally, I aim to describe how my personal journey intersects with my work.
