Another Spring 2025 CS Research Project

17 March 2025

Tanya Amert is looking to work with students on a research project this Spring Term.

Her primary research area is Real-Time Systems (which means predictable, not just fast), and this particular project will utilize Machine Learning (specifically classifiers).  Classifiers may not be able to confidently output a yes/no answer (e.g., does this picture contain a cat?), and can be configured to instead answer “I don’t know” (IDK) if the confidence is too low.  Such an IDK classifier can be followed up with another IDK classifier, and so on, until one of them gives a yes/no answer instead of IDK.

This spring, she is looking for 1-2 students who will construct one or more cascades of IDK classifiers, building on some recent analysis in the Real-Time Systems community.  Students would need to register for a two-credit independent study (thus working on the project approximately 5 hours per week).

The minimum required background is Data Structures, although experience with C/C++ or CS 330 is a bonus.  You do not have to be a CS major or a specific class year.

If you are interested in applying, be sure to fill out this form by Friday, March 21st at 5pm.
