Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) is a long-standing off-campus studies program in mathematics.  Although the Carleton students who have gone on this program are predominantly math majors, CS/math double majors may be interested in this program, and may wish to apply courses from BSM towards the CS major.

  • Credit for BSM’s Theory of Computing (THC) can be applied to fulfill the Carleton CS 254 CS major requirement.
  • Occasional other courses that are sufficiently computational may be permitted to count towards the CS major’s CS elective requirement.  (For example, BSM courses may roughly correspond to advanced algorithms, computational biology, or quantum computing.)  Consult with CS faculty if you are interested in applying courses from BSM towards the CS elective requirement.

The number of credits you receive for BSM courses is determined by the Math/Stats department.
