“Keeping you in the loop since 2005”

  • There’s a new link on our department web page to AfterCollege, who has designed a job opportunities page particularly for Carleton computer science students. Go to our department home page, at http://www.cs.carleton.edu, then click “Career Resources,” and then click “Job Resource Center.” For more information about this website, click above to read the information that AfterCollege has asked us to forward along.

  • Students Needed to Develop Voting Tool

    2 October 2006

Carleton’s Faculty Affairs Committee (FAC) is investigating a streamlined way of running electronic elections for various committee assignments. In recent years, faculty elections have been managed via surveymonkey.com, which lacks the features required by FAC’s new ideas. To make FAC’s ideas work, we will need a kind of web-based voting tool that does not appear to be available on-line for a low enough price. If you are interested in helping to develop such a tool and you have completed CS127, please contact Jeff Ondich (jondich@carleton.edu, CMC 327). Though no money is available for this project, you could receive credit for Independent Research (CS 292 or 392).

  • Undergraduate Research Award Opportunity

    26 September 2006

The Xi Chapter of Sigma Delta Epsilon/Graduate Women in Science is now accepting applications for the Undergraduate Affiliate Research Award. For more information and an application, please see Amy Csizmar Dalal or go to the GWIS web site.

  • Carleton alum Kevin Dill ’92, of Blue Fang Games, will be visiting campus to talk with students about artificial intelligence in computer games. This is the perfect chance to find out what Steve Jobs is like, learn what software engineers actually do, and get a sneak peek at some of the new iCal features! 3:00-4:00pm, Thursday, September 21, in CMC 206. Refreshments will be provided.

  • Programming Contest Kickoff

    15 September 2006

Once again, Carleton will be assembling teams of students to participate in the ACM Programming Contest. The experience is totally fun, and you get to practice different styles of programming than you may experience in your courses. The contest itself will be held on Saturday, November 11, at Gustavus Adolphus College. Want to participate and show how awesome Carleton is? Contact Dave Musicant (email dmusican) with questions or to express your interest by the evening of Monday, September 18. If you want to learn more about the contest in general, check out the contest website. You don’t need to put in a lot of time into this: showing up at the main event and having fun is what matters most.
