Use of database (ethVest) for shareholder resolutions to prepare report for Board of Trustees (due mid-winter)

  • Lists all shareholders’ resolutions → search to find companies we have voting rights in
  • ⅓ of endowment in holdings we can vote on
  • Will divide shares alphabetically among members to research resolutions
  • Search by ticker and year (2018) to find resolutions
    • See if it fits in preapproval category
    • If it does not, read explanation and do further research if needed to form an opinion of whether or not to vote for resolution
    • Initial analysis over winter break to help committee decide how to vote based off of published Carleton values (moral or financial)
  • Question of whether or not Carleton should propose resolutions
    • Difficulty with timeline

Survey on campus (student, faculty, and staff) opinion about committee

  • Part of Statistical Consulting class (runs both winter and spring)
  • Should we use the same questions as last time?
  • In the spring when timeline is less full as traditionally done (every two years)
  • Need to get started so that it is available early spring → get ready during winter term after report is written
