3M Meeting
Fadi, Forrest, Duncan, and Maile went to this year’s 3M shareholder meeting yesterday. They asked questions about the political contribution issue, but did not get any answers. They also made a useful contact at the meeting, a Carleton alum who works for a competitor of Hermes. Fadi showed us a draft of an article he plans to submit to the Carletonian about the meeting. We decided to add more information about CRIC in case an interested student reads the article and wants to learn more.
SEC petition
We received a petition from Dan Apfel that asks the SEC to do something about disclosure of corporate political contributions. We would like to sign it as “The Carleton Responsible Investment Committee,” however, we probably need outside approval about this. We will talk to Fred; we may just need his approval or we may need to talk to the board of trustees.
Personnel Changes
Daniel will send a letter to the college council regarding changing our charter to allow more student members. We can use the precedent of the Sustainability Assistants (STAs) and the Environmental Advisory Committee to make the case that more student members would be helpful. We will put off any recruitment efforts until we have begun dialogue with the College Council. However, next year, we could make a push to recruit more freshmen, or at least get a higher level of interest among the younger students, to help ensure continuity for CRIC.
Town-hall Meeting
Ellen talked to Michael McClellan about the possibility of a CRIC-organized town-hall meeting about the endowment in the fall. He seemed happy about the idea and agreed to help us plan such a meeting. We could provide food, such as Kurry Kabob, and bring an email list for interested students to sign. We might also have a petition regarding disclosure of direct holdings.
REC Summer Workshops
Duncan and Forrest are both interested in attending the REC summer workshops in New Jersey and in Wisconsin. We hope to get them each a grant through the Leadership Development Fund.
Budget
Fred Rogers should be looking into getting us a budget. We ought to contact him about how this is going. Attending the REC workshop would not come out of budget, so we do not have to factor that in when we make our request.
Spreadsheet
We are almost done with our spreadsheet. There is only one year (’08-’09) that is not included. Daniel will merge the ’08-’09 sub-spreadsheet onto our main spreadsheet.
