3M Shareholder Meeting

Fadi heard that 3M’s shareholder meeting on May 8th may have been cancelled.  There was no information about the meeting on their website, and he was unable to contact anyone from 3M by phone.

Loyola Conference Call

Joe Concannon listened in on a conference call with Loyola University of Chicago’s shareholder advocacy committee (SAC).  The SAC has a really high degree of institutional support (Loyola University is run by Jesuits and has a strong commitment to social justice), and they have had success engaging directly with companies.  If we the increase our level of student involvement at Carleton, maybe we could have closer to this amount of clout.

A company called ISS, which sits in on shareholder meetings for institutions, pitched their services during the conference call.  We probably do not want this service; it costs a lot of money.

Disclosure of Direct Holdings

Daniel Groll gathered some information on other schools’ policies on disclosing direct holdings; unfortunately, he had to miss this week’s meeting.  We discussed how to deal with trustee concerns about disclosure; we will encourage students to come to us with their questions and the information will be password protected.

We also discussed the spreadsheet of proxy votes and who is going to the summer REC workshops.
