To start off Wednesday’s meeting, Fred Rogers gave an overview of the CRIC and its responsibilities. He also went over a rough timeline for the year, saying committee should aim to have recommendations ready for the Board of Trustees done by mid-January. The CRIC has also added a new student member, Joe Concannon, who will take Cristina Sainati’s place. Committee members now have access to an online list of Carleton’s shareholdings, so members may begin looking into these companies’ past shareholder resolutions as well assessing whether their conduct is ethical. Members planned to split up the companies by email and begin researching before the next meeting. In terms interacting with the community, members discussed several options to pursue this fall. One possibility is tabling in Sayles, either soon or after the committee has a better idea of which issues are particularly prominent this year. In the near future, the committee hopes to have an informational article about the CRIC published in the Carletonian, and Amanda Savitt will contact the newspaper to arrange this. The committee is also making progress on the CRIC website; Jane Hubbard added the survey results and David Schlosser is working on adding a comments and questions forum. During the meeting, the committee also discussed the transparency of Carleton’s holdings, especially its hedge funds, as well as the college’s reasoning for keeping certain information private. Before the next meeting, Shannon Schulz plans to look into Carleton’s holdings to see whether the college has any funds invested in Darfur. Fred Rogers will clean up the list of public shareholdings and redistribute it to committee members. In order for the committee to be able to access EthVest, a database of shareholder resolutions, Jane Hubbard and Kristen Vellinger will work on creating a new login. Since the committee members can work independently on these projects, and because the CRIC has less to do during fall term than other terms, the committee will not meet every week this fall. The CRIC hopes that Jason Matz, the chief investment officer, will attend a future meeting.
