At the CRIC’s first meeting of the 2009-2010 school year, the committee discussed plans for the term. This year, the committee has several new members including Kristen Vellinger, who will be this year’s student chair, Amanda Savitt, and Chuck Anderson-Weir. New faculty members will also join the committee in the winter. Despite the new additions, the CRIC may be short in numbers due to members being off-campus. Therefore, the committee will look into adding new members. One goal the CRIC hopes to accomplish this fall is updating the CRIC website with the survey results from last year, the year-end report, the final report given to the Trustees, and the resolutions that were passed. The CRIC is also considering tabling in Sayles and distributing another survey. Members of the CRIC also discussed taking on new responsibilities, such as researching the companies that Carleton invests in to make sure that they are ethically responsible. Soon the CRIC should have access to Carleton’s most recent list of endowment holdings, and the committee can then begin to look into the companies. Members also mentioned opening up a discussion with the campus regarding the transparency of Carleton’s holdings. During the third weekend of the term, there will be a responsible investment convention in Philadelphia, and the CRIC hopes to send a member there as its representative. The CRIC also plans to select a student liaison for REC. This year, the committee plans on meeting on a weekly basis. Though the committee has not yet set a time for the next meeting, they hope to have Fred Rogers’ input at one of the early meetings.
