At the CRIC’s last meeting of the school year, the committee welcomed its new members. Joining the committee next year will be Fadi Hakim, Vivaan Misra, and Divya Sabanayagam. The new staff appointment will take place during the summer, and the faculty appointment should happen in the near future. This was the last meeting for Nathaniel Rosenblum, Shannon Schulz, and Pavel Kapinos.
The committee discussed the direction it should take in the fall, and the members decided on a push to educate the campus about the CRIC and responsible investment. Some suggestions included having a speaker in the athenaeum, holding an open forum, tabling, adding basic explications and definitions to the CRIC website, reworking the survey to be more explicit, and producing an article in the Carletonian. Other publications were mentioned as well, including the Clap and the Carl. The committee hopes to add CRIC to the Carleton Students webpage as well. Members discussed increasing attention to national responsible investment motions, and perhaps appointing a new liaison with REC. Additionally, the committee mentioned creating a calendar for next year based on this year’s events. Fred will post the most recent list of holdings on the Treasurer’s website, and the CRIC will go through its website and remove unnecessary items. Due to the high interest of increasing transparency in the survey results, the CRIC may also look into making more information about Carleton’s investments available to the public, as well as informing people of the information that is already accessible. Shannon mentioned having WebTeam track the number of hits on the Treasurer’s webpage before and after the education push to see how many people are using the information available to them.
Regarding proxy votes, the CRIC had a successful year, many of the proposals being withdrawn due to company acceptance, and others receiving high percentages of votes. The details will be available in the End-of-the-Year Report. Kristen will be abroad fall term, so Amanda Savitt will serve as the student chair in her absence. Kristen stayed after to talk with the new members and give them more information about the committee and how it proceeds.
