Discussion
I. AASHE attendance: select students to attend the conference in October
- Alex K. asked that the EAC funded $1,350 each maximum for two students to attend the AASHE Conference in Spokane, Washington from October 27 – October 30. The motion was seconded by Erica and approved by all EAC members.
II. UCapture
- Attendees were encouraged to download UCapture, a web browser extension, for Carleton’s carbon offsets.
IV. Carbon Pricing
- Reviewed Second Nature’s Internal Carbon Pricing in Higher Education Toolkit and a Smith College study for developing a carbon pricing tool kit for campuses. The study was done by a student of Alex Barron, a Carleton alum who has experience in working for the EPA and in the Senate and House during the Obama administration. People were tasked with looking for opportunities to bring Alex to Carleton.
V. Carleton’s Carbon Footprint FY18 information
- Reviewed the potable water consumption of Carleton’s well, energy use intensity, and total fossil fuel consumption from natural gas, oil, and electricity.
VI. Stewsie Awards and nomination process
- The EAC gives out an award each year, attendees were encouraged to think of people to nominate.
Other:
- Alex Miller displayed Carleton’s STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) scorecard. (STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance.
