The cinemas of Chile and Argentina have experienced a dramatic resurgence over the last decade as filmmakers work to explore issues of class, gender, and national identity. CAMS Professors Jay Beck and Cecilia Cornejo taught a Fall term course offering a broad historical and cultural overview of Chile and Argentina, a Winter term course concentrating on examining mainstream, alternative, and independent/marginal cinemas and the cultural movement that seek to enact change in both countries, and led students on a December break study trip to both countries. Students presenting their films, media installations, and research papers in a two-day symposium in early March included Brian Gordon, Camille Sanchez, Chris Griffin, Frida Cota, Kayla Rudess, Lina Fisher, Damali Britten, Audrey Kan, Madi Emenheiser, Jillian Banner, Lea Gould, Caroline Greenberg, Jesse Rothbard, and Adam Weiner.
