2016 CAMS grads Jonah Castaneda Barry, Aaron Sala, and Sam Frederich Now Working in Los Angeles
16 February 20172016 CAMS grads Jonah Casteneda Barry, Aaron Sala, and Sam Frederich (shown above) moved to Los Angeles after graduation and are finding work in the industry. Jonah and Aaron are production assistants on the CBS comedy Superior Donuts, produced by one of Carleton’s own, Emmy-Award winner Bob Daily, and Sam is animating a comedy special intro for Comedy Central.

CAMS grad Sarah Abdel-Jelil ’16 Receives Artist’s Initiative Grant from Minnesota State Arts Board
16 February 2017Turns out, there is life after CAMS comps. Recent CAMS graduate Sarah Abdel-Jelil ’16 has received an Artist’s Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board for developing work that started out as a comps project, combining dance with time-lapse photography. Sarah developed her grant proposal as an assignment in Professor Laska Jimsen’s CAMS 370 Advanced Production Workshop. Sarah’s new piece will culminate in a community dance time-lapse shoot that will be open to public participation. Congratulations, Sarah!

CAMS Professor Cecilia Cornejo and CAMS Grad Charlie Kilman Contribute to Environmental Film Series
2 February 2017CAMS visiting assistant professor Cecilia Cornejo helped the Cannon River Watershed Partnership find and program films for the Downstream Environmental Film Series to begin in February. One of the films to be included in the series, “Who Are We Now?,” was produced by recent CAMS grad Charlie Kilman.

Carleton Alum Kelley Conway Publishes New Film Studies Book
4 November 2016The French and CAMS departments recently invited Carleton alum Kelley Conway ’86 to return to Carleton to give a talk based on her outstanding new book, Agnès Varda (University of Illlinois Press 2015), which has been “highly recommended” by Choice Reviews. Conway is a professor of film studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Carleton alum Eric Tretbar is the assistant director for the feature narrative, “A Stray,” directed by Musa Syeed. The film is about a young Muslim refugee in Minneapolis who crosses paths with a stray dog. Tretbar said his home served as one of the locations. “The first rule of film is never shoot in your own location,” he said, “but, of course, this is the first rule you have to break.”
