The Yale Chemistry Department encourages applications to a one-year gap year (“postbaccalaureate”) program designed for students from underrepresented groups to build research experience. We have teamed up with the ACS Bridge Program and the Yale Office of Graduate Student Development and Diversity to support postbaccalaureate students from June 2024 through May 2025 in the Yale ACS Bridge PREP Program.
Accepted students will receive:
- $38,400 stipend
- health insurance
- tuition for courses
- money for a new laptop computer
- travel-related expenses
Each student works closely with faculty members and graduate students in laboratories that are doing world-leading research. By showing their success using all the tools in this environment, these students will demonstrate their suitability for admission at top graduate schools.
Chemists in the Yale ACS Bridge PREP program also interact with other postbaccalaureate students across science and humanities on the campus. Together, they hone skills on resume building, career workshops, preparation for graduate applications, as well as research and coursework. Yale’s PREP programs have a great track record of placing students into graduate schools. PREP students will also be integrated into the ACS Bridge program, with many resources from the American Chemical Society. More details are available in our brief video.
Applications should be made to the PREP program at Yale and are due by February 29. Students should apply for our program through Yale rather than through the ACS Bridge site.
