Welcome back to Carleton and the Chemistry Department!

17 September 2018

We hope you all have had a great summer. As everyone gets started with a busy year, we wanted to make sure you knew about several things that are going on in the department this year.

First, we want to welcome Kim Huynh to the department! Kim comes to us from the University of Maryland, where she did her Ph.D. in Chemistry, with a focus on Material Science, developing materials that absorb chemical warfare agents for use in gas masks. Kim also taught general and organic chemistry while in Maryland. She grew up in Michigan, so she’s enjoying being back in the midwest. Kim is teaching Chem 353 – Organic Chemistry III this fall, along with some lab sections of Chem 233. In the Winter and Spring, she’ll be teaching Chem 234. Her office is in old Music 204. Do stop by and make her feel welcome!

As always, we have a great line-up of visiting speakers in the department this year, starting with Emma Southgate, a recent alum, who will be here on Friday. Everyone, whether you’re a first year or a senior – is welcome and strongly encouraged to come to “chem-inar” on Friday afternoons (with cookies and tea!) and journal club on Thursdays at Common Time (pizza!). See below for more details.

Looking forward to a great year!
