Happy New Year and happy new term!
I am a graduate of 2015 but we most recently crossed paths when I co-taught the FOCUS A&I in 2019.
I am reaching out to ask for your help with my dissertation data collection by sharing a survey with the Carleton chemistry department.
That’s right, after co-teaching the A&I with Matt Rand in 2019, I joined the University of Minnesota where I am getting a PhD in biology education. The specific focus is on bio-inspired design.
My dissertation research investigates how people of various professions and career stages perceive the accuracy and utility of particular biological frameworks used in the field of bio-inspired design. To do so, I have developed a 15-20 min survey.
I am in particular need of responses from undergraduates, which is why I am reaching out to you. I’m hoping to get some Carleton chemistry or engineering-inclined students to participate.
Data collection is ongoing but I would like to complete this phase by mid-February as I am presenting at a conference in March.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions. I am grateful for your consideration of this request. I know the trimester is busy and time is precious.
My best,
Dimitri Smirnoff
