Dear Chem Majors,
Next term I will offer a 2 credit seminar titled “Molecular Visualizations” (Chem 259). The class will meet once a week on Wednesday at 6a. The course is mostly experiential and is designed to teach you how to create visualizations to define or explain molecular phenomena. To begin with I will demonstration the use of JSmol in creating images and will show you how to access the Cambridge Crystallographic Data base and the Protein Data base (if you don’t have prior experience using these data bases). We will also have guest lectures by Rou-Jia Sung (Biology) and Joe Chihade (Chemistry) in other 3D visualization techniques. Following those demonstrations and lectures, you will work on creating and perfecting a visualization to achieve a set of self-developed learning objectives for your visualization. Prerequisite: Chem 234 or Bio 126.
