Program
The Shannon Point Marine Center’s (SPMC) Research Experiences for Undergraduates program will support guided, independent research on the part of eight undergraduates in 2022. Participants will spend nine weeks at SPMC cunducting original research with a faculty advisor, participating in professional development activities, and participating in outreach programs. Students work with faculty mentors, conducting projects and developing written and oral reports at the conclusion of the program. Research themes may include productivity and nutrient cycling in marine environments; microbial ecology; molecular ecology and genomics; ecology and physiology of seagrasses and algae; larval development and physiology; environmental toxicology; coastal oceanography; and coastal geology. Student support includes a $5,400 stipend puls $75/week food allowance, a travel allowance, and housing at SPMC for the nine-week session (June 13-August 12).

How to Apply
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. and its possessions and must be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year institution of higher education. Students who have received a bachelor’s degree before the start date of the program are ineligible. Continuing SPMC’s long-standing tradition of working with diverse students, we strongly encourage applications from underserved, underrepresented, and under-resourced groups.
