Carleton alum Sarah Hamm-Alvarez (’86) is our seminar speaker on Friday, January 26 (next week). Sarah was a chemistry major at Carleton, but her interests lead her into biology and a medically-related, research career –– which is reflected in the many titles she bears:

While she is at Carleton, Sarah would like to meet with any students who might be interested in pursing graduate school, and a career, in medical research — to answer questions and offer advice.
In a recent email, she wrote:
I’d be happy to meet with any prospective grad students who are interested in the more medical graduate disciplines that I’m engaged in such as medical and systems biology, immunology/inflammation, etc, if they are interested in what to look for in a program. I can also speak to those who are generally interested in biomedical research programs in Los Angeles/Southern California and also Bay area. Since I’ve been here so long, and worked with some California medical school foundations, I can talk to students about the environments at USC but also UCLA, UCI, UCSD/Scripps, and Stanford.
