Positions for PhD Students at Boston College

28 September 2021

From Boston College:

We would like to share our excitement about our research with prospective applicants during a live Zoom information session on Saturday, October 9th at 11 AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

Note: Prior to joining the meeting, participants need to register for a free Zoom account and be logged into their account through the Zoom software.

Join the Zoom Meeting.
Meeting ID: 979 1565 8129

During this Zoom session, we will introduce prospective applicants to our physical chemistry research groups and our Department. This is an exciting time for physical chemistry at Boston College. Recent highlights include:

  1. In the last three years, our physical chemistry faculty has secured more than 15 major grants from DOE, NSF, and private foundations. Prof. Matthias Waegele received an NSF CAREER award in 2019. Profs. Dunwei Wang and Jeff Byers recently joined the interdisciplinary NSF Center of Chemical Innovation.
  2. I joined our faculty last year and have initiated a number of exciting independent and collaborative projects. My research interests span theory development, atmospheric and environmental physical chemistry, and computational catalysis and materials science.
  3. The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society at Boston College, whose establishment is enabled by a $300 M investment by the University, has begun operations this year. A new 150,000 square-foot science building, which forms the center piece of the Institute will open its doors this year. The building is erected right next to the Chemistry Department and will feature a large clean room facility.

I hope that I, my colleagues, and our current PhD students will be able to share our excitement about our research and the future of physical chemistry at Boston College with prospective applicants from your Department on Saturday, October 9th during the Zoom session. In the meanwhile, applicants are invited to explore our Department’s website, which features informational videos in the section “About BC Chemistry”:

Best wishes,
Lucas Bao
