NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)in Computational Methods with applications in Materials Science

8 February 2023

The Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) at Mississippi State University (MSU) will be hosting a summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program from May 30 – August 4, 2023, sponsored by the National Science Foundation. This program is aimed at involving undergraduate students in active research under the supervision of faculty who are dedicated researchers and mentors at the CCS, an interdisciplinary computational research center at MSU.

The major concentration will be in computational methods and their applications in materials science. The objectives are to provide undergraduate students with meaningful research experience, to show them the enjoyment of doing research, and to encourage them to pursue advanced degrees in mathematical and physical sciences. In addition to gaining experience in using computational simulation and data analysis tools, students will gain knowledge in using high-performance computing. At the end of the program, the participants will prepare written reports and give presentations of their research. The program will be enhanced with various scientific, cultural and social activities
