Heavy Atom Quantum Tunneling:

How can reactions occur when they do have enough energy to overcome the activation energy barrier? In this talk, we will unpack quantum tunneling and share the experimental and computational methods used to study the tunneling pathway. Particularly, we will explore the world of heavy atom quantum tunneling, as this phenomenon is generally less accepted among chemists. We will discuss the research of Zuev, McMahon, and Schreiner—key chemists in the field of heavy atom quantum tunneling of small organic molecules. Our presentation will compliment a talk by Robert J. McMahon from the University of Wisconsin-Madison on May 11th. Hope to see you there!
