Dear Chemists,
We are writing to let you know about some changes to the Chemistry Department’s student work program that we plan to implement next year. As part of a broader effort at Carleton to reorganize the prefect program, we will be inviting applications this spring to join a pool of experienced student workers who will serve as prefects next year, in addition to filling other departmental roles as needed.
Advantages to joining this cohort would be:
- A guarantee of consistent work hours each term, working as a prefect or in another role with Chemistry (students who will be off campus one term are still welcome to apply)
- Priority consideration for prefect and PSF roles (although we may also need you to serve as a lab TA in some terms)
- Opportunity to gain additional, paid professional development through the Academic Support Center throughout the year, a great resumé builder and a chance to refine your teaching skills
To apply for these positions, please do BOTH of the following by Sunday April 13:
- Indicate your interest to the Chemistry Department by filling out this brief survey
- Apply to be a prefect through the Academic Support Center
Applicants may be invited to participate in a group prefect interview through the Academic Support Center. We anticipate selecting 10 or more students for this set of positions.
Please feel free to contact either of us, or any of your Chemistry profs, if you have any questions.
Best,
Chris Calderone (Student Work Coordinator, Chemistry)
Matt Whited (Chair, Chemistry)
