Chemistry REU program at the University of Rochester

10 January 2022

We are writing to let you know about the new Chemistry REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program that we are initiating this year at the University of Rochester.  This 10-week program is a great way for young chemists to gain valuable research experience and contribute to cutting-edge science. We would greatly appreciate it if you could help spread the word by forwarding this information to undergraduate students in your program. The program runs from May 31 – August 5, 2022. Student stipends will be $5500 and includes free campus housing and reimbursement of travel expenses.  A huge variety of faculty mentors are participating in the program extending all the way from the discovery and development of new synthetic methods and catalysts, to biocatalysis, nanoparticle synthesis, peptide self-assembly, natural product synthesis, ultrafast spectroscopy, and quantum dynamics simulations, among others.  In addition to research, students will participate in diverse activities related to training in ethics, project development, professional networking, entrepreneurship, scientific communication, and outreach.  Through this combination of research and professional development, we expect that the ten participating students will leave the summer excited about careers in chemistry and science in general. The application is relatively straightforward, requiring a personal statement and CV, two letters of recommendation and an unofficial transcript. Detailed information about the program and application material can be found in our website. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are currently in their first three years of undergraduate studies in chemistry or other program-relevant disciplines. Students from historically underrepresented groups in graduate education or STEM fields and students from community colleges are especially encouraged to apply.

Application Deadline: February 15, 2022
