Chemistry Department Application Process for Summer Research 2019

4 February 2019

This year, because of construction that will make it impossible to do lab work on campus, the Chemistry Department will be carrying out an internal application process for a limited number of research positions in labs around the country that have agreed to take our students.  Students who are selected for these positions will be paid by Carleton, so all Carleton students (rising sophomores through rising seniors) are eligible to apply.

  • The application is available here.
  • The application is open until 5pm on February 22, 2019.  We hope to make decisions by the end of the term.
  • Students will be paid a stipend of $4700 ($470/week) for 10 weeks of work, and $300 towards travel/housing.  Students with demonstrated financial need can apply for additional travel/housing funding through the Dean of the College Office (info will be provided to applicants who are selected for positions).

Here is a link to the research labs which you can apply to work in this summer through the Chemistry Department.  New additions to the list of researchers have been added at the bottom of the list on the application form and in the google sheet.  If you have already submitted your application, you are welcome to go back and edit your response if you are interested in these groups (just click the link for the application again).

The Chemistry Department will review all applications that are submitted by the deadline.  We will then forward selected applications to the host research labs for consideration and final approval.  Students may be asked to participate in an interview (via Skype or similar method) before selections are completed.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact Deborah Gross.
