The 2017 application available
October 16 – January 15!The AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellows Program places science, engineering, and mathematics students and postdocs at media organizations nationwide. Fellows have worked as reporters, editors, researchers, and production assistants at media outlets that include the Los Angeles Times, WIRED, National Public Radio, National Geographic Society, and Scientific American.
The AAAS Fellows use their academic training in the sciences as they research, write and report today’s headlines, while sharpening their abilities to communicate complex scientific issues to the public. The Fellowship experience broadens the fellow’s career path while increasing the public’s understanding of science and technology. Apply Now for an SCI Scholars Summer Internship
Volume 21, Number 9The SCI Scholars Program is now accepting applications for its prestigious 10-week industrial internships. Up to 28 college sophomores and juniors will be selected for summer 2017. SCI Scholars will receive a $6,000-$10,000+ stipend and a certificate. An additional $1,000 will be provided to support professional development activities, such as meeting travel. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, must be chemistry or chemical engineering majors, and must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Apply by November 30, 2016, online at the SCI Scholars Program website.

UNT Summer 2017 NSF-REU
Volume 21, Number 8The Chemistry Department, at the University of North Texas, invites applications for their Summer 2017 NSF-REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Program. The ten-week program will tentatively begin the last week of May or the first week of June. Also, participants will be given a $5,000 stipend, plus housing will be provided. Funds are available to help defray travel costs to and from the REU site, which is located in the northern outskirts of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
Deadline is Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Every fall Carleton hosts a campus-wide poster session to celebrate the research that Carleton students have done over the preceding summer. This year, the Student Research Celebration will be held in Weitz Commons on Friday October 21st, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

Volume 21, Number 6The application deadline is midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, January 13, 2017. Letters of recommendation for up to two references are due by midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, January 20, 2017.
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) hosts a 9-week summer internship that is designed to provide research experience and mentorship for undergraduate students of rising senior status. We would appreciate your help promoting the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) among students at Carleton College. I have attached an informational brochure that offers an overview of the program, including eligibility criteria, compensation, travel and housing, and how to apply.

Accepting applications for 2017 SCI Internships
Volume 21, Number 5Applications are now being accepted for SCI Scholars, a summer internship program supported by Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
In this prestigious program, up to 31 chemistry and chemical engineering majors will be selected for 10-week Summer 2017 internships at 14 companies. Winners will receive
- $6,000-$10,000+ stipend, depending on the internship
- Additional benefits for some internships
- Certificate of recognition
- $1,000 professional development stipend, which can be used to participate in an ACS or AIChE meeting
- Opportunity to nominate an inspiring high school chemistry teacher for recognition. Teachers will be awarded a certificate and $1,000, which can be used for professional development or classroom materials.
The application deadline is November 30, 2016.

Whether you did research at Carleton or at another institution, you are strongly encouraged to share your work with the entire Carleton community at this event. Sign up by submitting a title, abstract, and other information about your poster here.
