This spring term the Biology Department will be offering a course designed for students with an interest in the medical profession. This course will be taught by Dr. Charles Crutchfield, M.D. ’82, and will meet once a week on Wednesday afternoons during the second five weeks of the term. More information is attached. The deadline in which to apply is Wednesday, February 20 at noon. You will be notified of your status before registration begins.
Please note: once you are accepted into the course, students will need to waitlist the course during your priority time. After priority registration is over, you will be given permission to add Biol 354, but you have one day to do so.
Please contact me if you are a campus driver, as the class will visit either the UMN Medical School or Mayo Clinic Medical School the last day of the course.

Biology 354 Human Cutaneous Biology
This spring term the Biology Department will be offering a course designed for students with an interest in the medical profession. The 3-credit course is Bio 354: Human Cutaneous Biology. This course will be taught by Dr. Charles Crutchfield III, M.D. (Carleton alum ’82), and will meet once a week on Wednesday afternoon during the second five weeks of the term. The course will cover the cellular and molecular biology of human skin in its normal and diseased states as it relates to a clinical presentation. Clinical dermatology and pathology will also be reviewed.
The course style will be patterned along the lines of a typical medical school class. Additionally, students will be introduced to many aspects of successfully negotiating medical school interviews, etc. The course includes introductions and possible field trips to the Mayo Clinic Medical School or University of Minnesota Medical School(s). Additionally, there may be other guest physicians and medical administrators (Carleton Alumni) that will come and talk about their experiences and journeys in medicine. Enrollment for this course is by application process. An application form is attached. Please return your completed application to Lorie Tuma <ltuma>, Biology Department, Hulings Hall 303A by Tuesday, February 19. You will be notified of your status before registration begins.
