AbbVie Chemistry Connections

17 October 2022

AbbVie is seeking to partner with academic institutions to build a mentoring and networking program with undergraduate and graduate chemistry students interested in the pharmaceutical industry (AbbVie Chemistry Connections). They have piloted two mentoring sessions with schools across the country and have received very positive feedback from both mentors and mentees. They’d like to expand the program to include a few more schools, including Carleton College. Students in the Carleton Chemistry Department are invited to participate in this mentoring and networking program. Students will be placed in small groups with other chemistry students and matched with mentors at AbbVie who can share their career experiences through virtual meetings. The purpose of AbbVie Chemistry Connections is to provide a platform for chemistry students to:

  • Learn about different chemistry careers in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Seek advice
  • Gain additional support
  • Grow their network

There is an informational meeting about the program on October 20th, open to any students who are interested. As many of the AbbVie mentors are trained organic chemists, this program is most likely of interest mainly to students who are interested in pursuing careers related to organic chemistry. The program would start in January 2023 and run through the summer of 2023.

Please complete the attached form and email Sasha Sundstrom (sasha.sundstrom@abbvie.com) to be placed on the mailing list for the opportunity. If they have any questions, feel free to reach out to Sasha or Stacy Fosu (stacy.fosu@abbvie.com).
