  • Periodic Table meets this week

    Thursday, May 18th, 2017

    12:00 – 1:00 pm / LDC

Periodic Table meets this Thursday in the LDC.  We meet at noon in the chemistry hallway and walk over together, or you can join us there.  If you are off board, the department will cover your lunch.  Note:  We do not have a room reserved this week.

  • Inclusivity in the Chemistry Department

All Chemistry majors, faculty, and staff are invited to share ideas about how to best promote inclusivity within the Chemistry Department (in classes, labs, group work, etc.). We would like to ask everyone to reflect on two questions that we will discuss, to help us improve as a department:

    1) What actions should the department take to promote a sense of inclusion for everyone in Chemistry classes, labs, group work, etc?
    2) What kinds of actions or strategies have you used to defuse inappropriate comments or behaviors that you have witnessed (need not be in Chemistry)?

We envision this as a free-ranging discussion, taking place both in small groups and all together, and we hope to come away with positive suggestions!

The discussion will be at 4:30pm on Monday, May 22.  If the weather is good, we’ll meet outside in the Mudd Amphitheater (while we still can!).  In case of rain, meet in Mudd 171, and we will move from there.  Faculty members will bring desserts!

If you can’t attend the discussion, but have thoughts, comments, questions, or concerns that you would like to share, please feel free to email them to Deborah, or write them on a piece of paper and slide them under Deborah’s office door.
