You may be familiar with the Amgen Scholars Program, a summer research program in science and biotechnology. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a participant in the Amgen-UROP Scholars Program for an eleventh year. UROP is MIT’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. The mission of the Amgen-UROP Scholars Program is to provide students with a strong science research experience that may be pivotal in their undergraduate career, cultivate a passion for science, encourage the pursuit of graduate studies in the sciences, and stimulate interest in research and scientific careers.

The University of Nebraska’s summer program offers research opportunities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields in addition to an interdisciplinary Minority Health Disparities program aimed at converting cutting edge social and behavioral research into an understanding and reduction of health disparities among minorities.
Priority review begins Monday, February 1 and all applications must be completed by Tuesday, March 1.

ORAU administers Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research participation programs for civilians such as the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Program that allow senior scientists, faculty; high school, bachelor’s, masters’ and doctoral students, and recent graduates to enhance their science education experience in projects and activities at research facilities worldwide. Last year, ORAU placed over 9,400 participants in educational research roles across the country.

The NASA Airborne Science Program invites highly motivated advanced undergraduates who will be rising seniors in summer 2017 to apply for participation in the 9th annual NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP 2017). The purpose of the Student Airborne Research Program is to provide students with hands-on research experience in all aspects of a major scientific campaign, from detailed planning on how to achieve mission objectives to formal presentation of results and conclusions to peers and others.

SOARS is an undergraduate to graduate research internship program for students interested in the atmospheric and related sciences, based at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (Boulder, Colorado). It is dedicated to broadening participation in the atmospheric and related sciences and is built around genuine research experiences, mentoring by top scientists and engineers, and a supportive learning community. In addition to the summer internship, SOARS includes year-round support, funding to attend conferences and last-dollar tuition scholarships. Successful protégés are eligible to participate in the program for up to four years.

The Harvard-Amgen Scholars Program is a ten-week faculty mentored residential summer research program for undergraduates in biotechnology. Through this program, a diverse cohort of rising undergraduate juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to work in laboratories of faculty across the Harvard campus. In addition to an engaging, formative research experience, Harvard-Amgen Scholars will live among over 300 undergraduates residents of the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village community in one of the historic Houses along the Charles River. The Center for Chemical Evolution (CCE) is currently recruiting students for our 10-week, paid summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. We are seeking undergraduate students at all levels that have an interest in chemical sciences and research who are also U.S. Citizens or permanent residents. Students are paired with leading research professors in diverse chemistry disciplines. Interdisciplinary research areas include the study of chemical evolution and the chemistry associated with the origins of life.

The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program provides college students with an opportunity to gain and develop research skills with the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy for 10 weeks over the summer.
