Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the major celebrations in the Islamic tradition. It is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, following the completion of the annual Hajj (pilgrimage). The holiday commemorates Prophet Abraham’s devotion to God, and is traditionally marked by prayers, community gatherings, charity, and ritual sacrifice of an animal (for those who are able to do so).

Since the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, Eid shifts approximately 10 days earlier each year in the solar calendar and is typically celebrated for three days. This year, Eid is expected to begin on the evening of May 26 and continue through May 29.
