Gethsemane Vigil
In Matthew 26:36, Jesus and the disciples go to Gethsemane and Jesus asks them. “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” The disciples do not stay awake as Jesus prays, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not what I want but what you want” (Matt 26:39 NRSV). In this Vigil, we respond to Jesus request to stay awake with him, keeping vigil with him during this trial. If you have never kept vigil in this way before, you are invited to join a long-standing practice for many Christians. You might like to bring a Bible, a journal, a rosary or a devotional prayer book. There will be prayer resources available. Sign up here.
At 10:30am on Friday, we will end our Vigil with a brief prayer service before Convocation.
Whether you are a student, staff, faculty, or a member of the Northfield community or neighboring congregations, know you are welcome at all our Holy Week programs.
