Ligue des droits de l’homme (Human Rights League)

A student gained familiarity with the French immigration and legal systems through interning with the Ligue des droits de l’homme (Human Rights League).  The student helped undocumented residents navigate the French bureaucracy through interviewing undocumented immigrants seeking help from the organization and collaborating with colleagues to identify possible solutions.

Vizir

Vizir.co, a Parisian startup that developed an online questionnaire platform, placed an intern in charge of US, UK, Australia, and Canada market development and was responsible for reaching out to other companies, managing Vizir’s English-medium social media, and translating Vizir’s website and blog posts from French into English.

Radio Orient

An intern at Radio Orient, a station broadcasting in both French and Arabic and targeting France’s Muslim population, was assigned as an English language correspondent, covering events in the United States. The intern researched potential stories and conducted and translated interviews, as well as gaining technical skills in recording and editing.

Centre de Recherche sur l’Inflammation (Inflammation Research Center)

A medical research internship at the Centre de Recherche sur l’Inflammation (Inflammation Research Center), a biochemistry laboratory associated with the Bichat-Claude Bernard Hospital, allowed the intern to gain experience working with various chemicals and tissues, as well as to observe how two cancer medications worked separately and together to decrease the size of tumors in mice.

Musée en Herbe

An intern at Musée en Herbe, a museum specializing in art exhibits and workshops that are accessible to all ages, greeted visitors and answered questions about exhibits in French, led scavenger hunts and art workshops for French children, and translated exhibit signage from French into English.

LaTTiCe

An internship placement at LaTTiCe, a linguistics research laboratory, allowed the intern to learn about corpus and computational linguistics gain familiarity with linguistic software programs, such as TreeTagger and TXM. The intern was assigned a project studying the modal verbs should and would in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and the equivalent verbs/verb forms in a French translation.
