Information for 2023-2024

In collaboration with partner institutions in Paris, the Center for Global and Regional Studies (CGRS) is offering a number of eight-week internships that will take place after the Paris program, from (approximately) June 3, 2024, through July 26, 2024.

These internships are custom placements within French work/research environments. Slots are available through a competitive evaluation. Typically, the Career Center covers nearly all costs of the internship (excluding airfare) through their funding process.

  • Participation in the 2024 Carleton Paris Program
  • Appropriate background or training in the area of the requested internship

Estimated living costs (includes room, board, local transportation)*~$4,000.00
Administrative Fee (includes internship placement fee, CUPA fee, and medical, security, and travel assistance coverage from CISI)$850.00
Visa-related fees paid by student (Campus France fee, timbre fiscale, others; does not include travel costs to obtain visa)~$460.00
Total~$5,310.00

* Actual costs may be more or less depending on living arrangements you choose, how much you spend on food, transportation, travel, entertainment, etc.

** All students must apply for Career Center funding, and must include this administrative fee in their budget. Some visa and administrative costs may not be covered by this administrative fee. (Note: the Career Center will not support airfare requests, given that you will already be over in Paris for the OCS program.)

Application Process

Fill out the online application no later than Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Be sure to give your referee (the person filling out your application recommendation) at least one week to complete his or her recommendation.

  1. The review committee will notify you on the status of your application shortly after all applications and recommendations have been submitted and reviewed.
  2. If selected by Carleton, to commit to the internship experience, you will be asked to submit the following documents to the CGRS (who will forward them to the internship matchmaker):
    • CV in English and in French
    • Latest transcript (scan is sufficient)
    • Cover letter with introduction and work interests as well as details on your background and preparation (past work or internship experience, practical training, course work)
    • Other documents, as relevant

Timely completion of all requested steps is crucial. If you miss deadlines, you will be responsible for any additional costs. You may also put your visa in jeopardy, and thus forfeit your internship.

Specific placements will be determined with the internship matchmaker in the spring.
